Yesterday my work partner and I talked about food, health, acupuncture, exercise, school, and family. Today we talked about God. Both days were pretty great. I think we’re bonding.
Boundaries were set, reiterated, and respected overall. Set: “I won’t hate you, we can agree to disagree. We can definitely listen to each other with the goal of understanding what the other is saying, not changing each other’s minds about anything. I don’t want to change your mind, so you don’t want to change mine, right?” (I silently told myself to be honest, unapologetic, and patient). Reiterated: “let me finish,” and “don’t cut me off.” And then, overall respected.
Top 5 Q & A on GOD 4 the Day
- “Do you believe in God? YES OR NO!?”
- Not the Christian God. I believe that everything is connected and working together, like a body. You’re the left hand and I’m the right. When I’m in tuned with myself I can feel everything. So I’m God.
- “So…why don’t you think we’re made in God’s image?”
- Because humans are the worst species on the planet. We are killing the thing that we depend on the most. I’m so happy that I’m an alien, and incredibly embarrassed that I look so human.
- “Do you believe the Bible is the word of God?”
- As soon as something is written down or spoken from one source to another it is subject to interpretation, both by the speaker and the listener. So unless God sat down with a scroll, ink, and feather to write out the Bible in every language (which no one claims is likely, it’s called the King Jame’s Bible for a reason) it can not be the word of God, at best, it could be someone’s interpretation of the word of God…and it’s not.
- The Bible is a composition of stories from a multitude of origins, all human, and put together with the purpose of instilling values and expectations in people to maintain certain, predictable, controllable, and profitable behaviors.
- “If a stranger came up to you and said they needed a place to stay, would you let them stay with you?”
- Yes. So many strangers have let me stay in their homes. I like to put out what I would like to receive. Sometimes bad shit happens but, bad things will happen regardless of being ruled by fear or not. Fear is such a slippery slope. I never want to build the habit of avoiding things because of all of the bad possibilities.
- “What separates humans from animals?”
- War.
That was a nibble of the conversation had between carrying solar panels up and down the swamp between me and my ex-military comrade. I was thoroughly entertained. Making friends is great.
